heavenmcarthur-rubbishrenewed-2016-546-webresheavenmcarthur-rubbishrenewed-2016-529-webresOur mission of transforming trash and inspiring community for a sustainable earth is seen in all aspects of Rubbish Renewed!

Rubbish Renewed invites individual community members and BUSINESSES to design pieces for the runway show.

As a business employee, group of employees, owner, or fan, you can get on the runway by designing a garment with quintessential waste from your business or business affiliate and joining 9 other local businesses for our 2017 Business Challenge.

The Business Challenge aspect of our show is comprised of a group of 10 businesses who create runway-worthy garments from their unique trash.  Business Challenge participants are accepted on a “first come, first serve basis” after completing the application process and compete in a friendly competition for the coveted Trash Trophy on Thursday, January 12th, 2017.

More information can be found in the Business Challenge Application.

We did it…with YOU! – just under $22,000 for REALMS Magnet School.

blog postAre you still buzzing from our show last week?  We are too!  We did it…with YOU!

We had another successful fundraising event.  The Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show was back for the 6th year and we saw bigger than ever numbers, making this one of Bend’s greatest loved events.  We saw greater than 500 people through our doors for each of our two shows, we found the generous support from 25 Bend business sponsors, we enlisted the creativity of 60+ models and designers, and employed more than 30 dedicated volunteers to raise just under $22,000 for REALMS Magnet School.

We would like to thank everyone who came to support Rubbish Renewed and REALMS Magnet School.  The entire evening was a true success and absolutely showcased how we can transform trash and inspire community for a sustainable earth.  We appreciate the time, effort and innovation of this year’s designers and could absolutely not do this event without YOU.  Your one of a kind garments were impressive and helped create another unique show.  The student designers continue to “wow” the audience with their creativity and collaboration, and after all these years we continue to see new materials on the runway.  A testament to your designing spirit and environmental consciousness.

A SPECIAL THANKS GOES OUT TO…

Our Headline Sponsors:  Habitat for Humanity ReStore for continuing to be an integral part of our event for the 6th year; through your sponsorship, we are able to provide the infrastructure and materials to put on Rubbish Renewed, Sonic Solutions for providing the professional runway stage and lights, Flip Flop Sounds for the stellar music and DJ, and  Tambi Lane Photography for your pre-event promotional photos.  We truly could not do this without YOU!

PHOTO SHOOT SNEAK PEAK

Thursday, December 18th, Rubbish Renewed gathered 15 garments at Tambi Lane Photography for our pre-show photo shoot. We invited Business Challenge participants, live auction item designers, and had a lottery of students for our final few spots. 2 of our 10 Business Challenge garments came, and 7 of 9 auction items. We filled the final spots with a lottery selection of completed student submissions. Thank you Bishops Barbershop for the exquisite hair, Kimberly Harwood for the makeup glow and Tambi Lane Photography, our Rubbish Renewed official photographer, for your masterful vision and photo execution! Here is a sneak peak of what is to come at the show on Thursday, January 15th.

Behind the Scene Designer Series: Artist 4 – Paula Bullwinkel

When Paula Bullwinkel, our 4th Behind the Scene Designer, isn’t designing couture trash fashion, she works as an artist and art instructor at COCC. I’m always blown away by the strong lines that flow through Paula’s designs. She get’s the human form, and from this, transforms the materials into an extension of the wearer. Here’s a peak into Paula’s process of transforming trash and inspiring community for a more sustainable earth.

RR: How did you get started as a trash fashion designer?

PB: I found extra stuff around my house and I like to imagine something new out of something old or mundane.

RR: What inspires your creations?

PB: I’m inspired by Japanese couture from 1980’s and 1990’s, and 1950’s party dresses.

RR: What is one thing you want to say to all the aspiring young designers?

PB: Art can be wearable.

RR: What is your current goal as a Trash Fashion Designer?

PB: I would like to find some really unusual materials in a junk or thrift shop to make something nobody has seen before. I would like to construct something huge and gorgeous.

There’s no question in my mind that Paula Bullwinkel will “construct something huge and gorgeous” for this year’s Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show. Come out and get a glimpse on Thursday, January 15th.

Tickets on sale December 15th.  Purchase online at rubbishrenewed.com through eventbrite, at REALMS Charter School in Bend (63175 OB Riley Road), or at Wabi Sabi (downtown Bend / 830 NW Wall St).

Wear Rubbish and Get Rewarded

Auctioned last year

Wear your tie skirt

How about wearing “rubbish” and getting rewarded!  At our second annual Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show we will honor those who wear outfits that are re-fashioned or trash-fashion with a free drink ticket.  Don a piece purchased in our last year’s live auction and get into this year’s event for free!  Finally, we hope you will join other courageous characters to strut your stuff in our audience runway walk.  More than ever we believe transforming trash inspires community for a sustainable earth.
