The 6 stunning items auctioned this year raised more than $4000!

Each year more designers than we have space for offer up their trash fashion pieces for auction. These designers’ strong belief in the Rubbish Renewed sustainable community mission, and the desire to support education, inspires. We choose to auction meticulously constructed pieces that are wearable or displayable. Thank you to these generous and talented designers for their spectacular support!

Just 4 days Away!

Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show is just 4 days away, and for the 1st time it’s a Saturday night! One of the most engaging events in town, this fundraiser features two eclectic, wearable art (trash fashion) runway shows (one that features local students), our Business Challenge (competing for the Coveted Trash Trophy), a live auction of a select group of runway garments, a silent auction comprised of local sustainable donations, a pop up “marketplace”, featuring sustainable, creative products from local artists, local food and drink.

Rubbish Renewed 1st Auction Remembered

Designing a piece with my dad was on my bucket list. So, I came up with an idea using old canvas from a deteriorating, retired tipi to create a 19th century style chief’s coat. With the huge amount of material available in the shelter, even though riddled with holes, plenty was structural. Dad happened to have an historical piece he received from an old friend, that was the perfect model to inspire the style. From that, I created a mock up in my build-first-pattern-later technique. Dad’s part was to draw plains pictograph style horse and riders, reminiscent of dew cloth designs from the same time period, with Sharpie the preferred medium. I finished the body and delivered it to Seattle. While I waited for its return, I adorned the placket with geometric patterns typical of parfleche designs, also with sharpie, and painted the cuffs and collar in rich, royal blue.

The piece came together in time for our first marketing photo shoot at Tambi Lane Photography. My 19-year-old nephew had moved to Bend from Belgium, and I strong-armed him into modeling the piece. We selected a small group of pieces to auction and made sure to photograph them. The pictures out on social media, I peppered friends with emails, knowing that something as unique as this, with my dad as one of the artist’s, could be an auction highlight. Luckily, I knew people who would want and appreciate the piece, what I didn’t understand, was there were Bendites who would bid big too!

The runway show tops the charts for style and fun, but remember it’s a fundraiser. The pieces presented for auction are donated by the generosity of artists in order to support REALMS! Come and bid to win a one-of-a-kind, wearable and displayable art piece!

Over our 8 years, Karen Holm’s pieces have raised more than $8,000 for REALMS unique education and are in collections from British Columbia to Bend.

Rubbish Renewed Live Auction – It’s a fundraiser!

Friends, acquaintances, and at times strangers often remind me, that the Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show is their favorite event of the year. People of all ages love the energy, art, and message of the evening. However, many of those same people don’t realize that Rubbish Renewed is a fundraising event for REALMS Magnet School and supports the unique programing that makes REALMS a place where rigor, relevance, and relationships intersect.

PHOTO SHOOT: looking ahead to the runway

4 weeks before garments need to be runway ready, on December 17th, a small group of designers, models and Rubbish Renewed volunteers gathered at Tambi Lane Photography for our pre-show photo shoot. Photographs are focused on Business Challenge participants, garments being donated to our live fundraising auction, and student garments (completed garments enter a lottery for the final few spaces).  The end result is to present you with a sneak peak of the richness to come. We couldn’t create this professional shoot without the wonderfully talented Bishops Barbershop’s masterful hair, and Mayra Stearn & Arenal Hruby makeup magic! Tambi Lane Photography not only contributes the sweet space, but once again, Tambi made the garments come alive in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
