Create the 2018 Marketplace!

Create the 2018 Marketplace!!!

The Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show is much more than just a fashion show!

The Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show Fundraiser is a one night zero waste experience, emphasizing and educating about sustainable living and living lighter on the planet.  One of the ways we do this is through our Marketplace.

If you are an artist who creates products that are re-fashioned, made from trash, or products that purposefully keep trash out of the landfill, you would be a great fit for our Marketplace.

The Marketplace provides an opportunity to sell and “market” your work to an increased audience who recognize the value of sustainable fashion. The Marketplace will be open during both shows from 5:00-10:00pm.

You can find more details and the 2018 Marketplace Application HERE.

Rubbish Renewed made $20,000 for REALMS Magnet School!

fb_thanksWe packed the house with over 400 people at each of our two shows, raising just over $20,000 for REALMS’ distinctive education.

Thank you!!!

This year the show was elevated because of the quality and vision brought by 50 Central Oregon designers (24 of which were students from 10 local schools including Miller Elementary, Pine Ridge Elementary, Amity Creek, Bend High School, REALMS, Pacific Crest Middle School, Redmond Proficiency Academy, Cascades Academy, Mtn. View, and Summit High).

Given the weather and event postponement, we couldn’t have imagined the amount of support from the community with 25 Sponsors donating essential cash, beverages & services, 8 Business Challenge submission, 10 local vendors who also gave items to the silent auction, and additional other silent auction contributing businesses. Finally our 60+ dedicated volunteers from organizers, models, clean-up crew and everything in between

On behalf of the entire REALMS faculty, board of directors, and students, thank you again for your generosity and support.

2017 Community Garment // What one action can you take to lower your impact on the planet?

first-friday1As we ring in the new year, reflect on years past, and make plans to create a brighter 2017, it seems like the right time to share the story behind our annual Rubbish Renewed “Community Garment” creation.   At each of our two shows, you will see this year’s “Community Garment”, which was inspired from pledges gathered at December’s “First Friday.”

On Friday, December 2nd, the Bend community came together at Cosa Cura to take pledges for the planet.  People asked, “What one action can I take to lower my impact on the planet?”   Pledges were written directly on discarded CD’s, which will be integrally pieced in the 2017 “Community Garment.”

The 2017 “Community Garment” will grace both runway shows, spreading the messages, and making a community shift for a more environmentally sustainable planet.   Look for this special garment on the runway!

marketplace4_mcarthurmarketplace3_mcarthurmarketplace5_mcarthurThe Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show Fundraiser is more than a fashion show!  It is a fun, fundraising night out, where every aspect of the evening is focused on sustainability, innovation, and design.

One unique aspect, the Rubbish Renewed Marketplace, is currently accepting Marketplace Applications for the 2017 event.

The Marketplace features 10 local artists selling re-fashioned, trash-fashioned or sustainability-focused products.   The Marketplace is an opportunity for local artists to sell and “market” their work to a large audience (1,000+) who recognize the value of sustainable fashion, art, and design. The Marketplace will be open during both shows from 5:00-10:00pm.

Spend your night with other creative, conscious individuals celebrating art, fashion, and design, while raising money for an innovative public school, REALMS Magnet School.  Get here when the doors open, so you have time to shop at our local Marketplace and silent auction.

We did it…with YOU! – just under $22,000 for REALMS Magnet School.

blog postAre you still buzzing from our show last week?  We are too!  We did it…with YOU!

We had another successful fundraising event.  The Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show was back for the 6th year and we saw bigger than ever numbers, making this one of Bend’s greatest loved events.  We saw greater than 500 people through our doors for each of our two shows, we found the generous support from 25 Bend business sponsors, we enlisted the creativity of 60+ models and designers, and employed more than 30 dedicated volunteers to raise just under $22,000 for REALMS Magnet School.

We would like to thank everyone who came to support Rubbish Renewed and REALMS Magnet School.  The entire evening was a true success and absolutely showcased how we can transform trash and inspire community for a sustainable earth.  We appreciate the time, effort and innovation of this year’s designers and could absolutely not do this event without YOU.  Your one of a kind garments were impressive and helped create another unique show.  The student designers continue to “wow” the audience with their creativity and collaboration, and after all these years we continue to see new materials on the runway.  A testament to your designing spirit and environmental consciousness.

The jury is in; the 5th annual Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion show was the best ever! More fun, more energy and more style. We couldn’t have done it without the nimble hands of the stylists from Bishops Barbershop and Posh Salon & Spa.  The green room pulsed with creative garment connections, slick cohesion and quick turnaround. More than 40 models, styled masterfully, walked the runway to the upbeat music from Flip Flop Sounds.

A few of our sponsors also set the style tone:

Local Libations, food carts, and mason jars for beverages this year!

RR-drinking-jar-logo

Graphic Design: Allison Murphy Printing by Dan Wellisch; Owner of Flash Ink

Rubbish Renewed is a truly local event!  A fundraiser for a local charter school rooted in Bend since 2001, REALMS Charter School, artists and models from Central Oregon, local food carts (The Pizza Cart, Bethyln’s Global Fusion, Shred Town), and even down to our beverage service, beverage choices and newly branded Rubbish Renewed mason jars printed by a local company, Flash Ink.  When it comes to beverages, we know that everyone has their loyalties and favorites.  We can ensure, with the diversity of local businesses supporting this event, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

We are thrilled and thankful to welcome back many businesses that have supported this grassroots endeavor since 2010.  We have Velvet back for the 5th year, providing our drink service for both shows.  They will be serving Boneyard Beer, cocktails made from the finest vodka, Crater Lake Vodka produced by Bend Distillery , wine from Naked Winery, Far Afield Cider, the newest Bend cidery, and Humm Kombucha.

As we continue to work towards “zero waste” with the help of Rethink Waste, we have Rubbish Renewed branded mason jars to purchase for $8 at the event. People will get $1 off each drink with a jar purchase.  From the talent behind the show, the artist’s marketplace, the local food and drink, we sought a local company to brand our new drinking jars and couldn’t be happier working with Dan at Flash Ink.  His responsiveness and desire to beat any online company made it an easy sell for us to once again go local.

So why local?  We all know that it has become increasingly cheaper to buy distantly produced goods, despite the increased costs of packaging and transport.   Here are some shocking stats & quick facts about buying local goods.

  • Aircraft transport has greater fuel consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions per mile than any other mode of transport.
  • Transportation by shipping produces emissions of 1 billion metric tons of CO2 and uses 11 billion gallons of fuel per year internationally.
  • The EPA reports that trucks spend 3,221 of their 6,816 hours on the road each year at an idle. 1.2 billion gallons of fuel and about 200,000 tons of nitrous oxides are expended each year by transport trucks idling at rest stops.

We hope to see you at the show next week!  Remember to come early to grab a seat, drink, food from local food carts, shop in our local marketplace, and enjoy our eco-silent auction.
